Order Filament Splicer

Availability

Filament splicer is finished product which has not yet been produced in large quantities. We have supply chain established for all components and ready for production.

Copper CNC machined parts for splicer have minimum order quantities of several hundred pieces. While we are ready to invest into it, we also would like to collect certain number of pre-orders to ensure that there is real interest in product. This is prime case for 'Crowdfunding', after careful review of our options we have decided to skip known portals and create our own campaign.

Stages

Stage 1: pre-order (active)

If you are interested in one of our 3 packages you can enter our waiting list using the form below. No payment is necessarily on this stage.
Stage goal: 125 confirmed pre-orders by 31 of May 2014.

Stage 2: payment

If stage 1 goal is reached, we will send eMails to all people on pre-order list and kindly ask them to check out within two weeks using our own secure credit card payment gateway.
Stage goal: 3/4 of pre-orders checked out between 01 and 14th of June 2014. If goal is not reached all payments will be refunded.

Stage 3: production

If stage 2 is successful we will initiate order of CNC machined components and begin production of filament splicer as soon as possible, we estimate that about 30 days will be needed to receive all components. Orders for copper parts will be sent out immediately as we receive parts, DIY kits and assembled units will be delivered at the rate of 10+ orders / business day.

Hi Stefan,

Thank you for the interest. I have actually more or less give up on this project because there was very little interest but now it seems pre-orders come through (somehow product got onto several sites). I am obviosly terrible at marketing.

About Splicer: Problem is that our local CNC company has MOQ of 200 for copper parts, and since they are actually the most expencive part of this project that's some $ to dump into something I am not sure I can sell in such quantity. When I started this project I thought that crowdfunding could be a way, now I know that my marketing skills and wherebouts close that option. But I have learned the lesson and invested into my workshop: I now have much better facilities in house (serious and heavy milling machine, lathe, etc.).

So, since I believe that things should be completed to the end I am considering making tiny batch of splicers by hand but need to get proper copper material and convex milling cutter for 1.75mm slot first.

I will give you all feedback within the next 2 weeks and will run production during X-Mas if I decide to.

I use my slicer for that: Cura, it shows more or less precisely, layer by layer, how much material will be spent by then.

I'm working on a filament splicer too. I have a small lathe I converted to CNC and a CNC Router along with the standard Delta 3D printer that everybody is born with plus other useful things. It dosen't seem like it's going to take all the much machining. At least the way I'm thinking about it. I find the CNC Router really handy for things like pilot holes and general cutouts plus repeatable machining. I think it is a really good idea and you should spend some time doing a bunch of really neat prints to get people more interested. It definitely seems like you have to work on getting people more excited about your idea. That starts with yourself. I would work on demonstrating how accurate, then how fast you can splice plus how far you can go into automating the process.
