Air compressor for laser cutter / engraver

kirill's picture

All Laser Cutters need two additional devices which move air: blower which removes air / extracts smoke from machine and air compressor as a source for compressed air for so called air assist.

Why and How

Laser cuts by heat, very high heat focused in tight beam. Side products of high heat are smoke and fire, both are not welcomed addition, smoke disperses laser beam reducint it's efficienty and fire causes charring of material / edges and can even get out of control causing serious emergency.

Fire needs air to burn but it will also die if you blow too hard, think of a candle in the wind. This is essentialy what air assist is for: compressed air is extruded directly at the laser head in a very tight stream and is directed at the place where laser touches material.

Pressure and volume of air

Pressure of air is key variable for air assist efficienty, in our shop we found out that optimal value is between 2 and 3.5 bar (31-50psi).

To achieve required pressure compressor needs to push certain volume of air through air assist opening, exact volume depends on size of the opening and desired pressure. High quality laser cutter heads have small and finely tuned openings while cheaper chinese cutters just blow in general direction via large holes.

Proper compressor

When choosing compressor you need to consider if it will be able to constantly provide desired pressure and volume of air. Small airbrush compressors small compressors boast impressive pressure figures but really poor flow rates sufficient only for airbrush pistols. Even if small compressor would be able to push enough air it will likely overheat in couple of minutes.

Our laser cutter came with small membrane pump (Smallest on the picture), I do not know what specifications it has but stream of air was very weak. It is sufficient if all you want to do is engrave, although even then we got substantial smoke traces around engraved picture.

Second unit we got was AS-48A compressor, it was rated for volume of ~2.4cfm and had a 1 gallon tank which can be filled to 58 PSI. It managed to give us constant 1 bar (14 PSI) of pressure, but it had to run all the time and overheat badly within 5 minutes.

Third and current compressor we got was 6cfm rated belt driven unit with 13 gallon tank which is filled to ~100psi. With this unit we can run at constant ~2bar (31psi) without fear of overheating since compressor engine is not on all the time. Using reserve air in tank we can also push up to 3.5bar (50psi) for short jobs.

The best setup in my opinion would be compressor rated to >6cfm, large 70+ gallons tank rated to 10bar (140psi) and software air control via solenoid valve.

Air Quality

Air which comes out of Air Assist nozzles should be as clean as possible, warer and oil vapors should be removed from it. Proper inline air filers are must have.

Noise

When choosing compressor, please do consider noise, cheap direct driven compressors are terribly noisy! It is one thing to hear noise in the shop and another to have that ratchet around you all the time. Our general advise: Choose belt driven units, they run at lower RPMs and cause much less noise. Our compressor has noise rate of 68dba, we can work without ear plugs when it runs.

Automating air flow

Good laser controller boards come with option to control air flow, it is basically a relays head which is supposed to trigger a solenoid valve when needed (controlled by software), our Ruida controller has this head, we plan to make use of it soon and document it here.

Thinking over my time in online gambling, I've recently come to see how the latest sites are shifting the method players play tables. In my opinion, it seems that the odds tend to be all over the place, which is why smart bankroll control matters most nowadays . By the way, I checked out this interesting review page [url=https://telegra.ph/Impetuoso-Divertimento-verso-i-migliori-casino-non-aa...
https://telegra.ph/Impetuoso-Divertimento-verso-i-migliori-casino-non-aa... where people share different tactical strategies , and I found it quite insightful for keeping my spending down . One thing I constantly advise newbies is to avoid trying to track losses , because it's almost always how the fun goes wrong . Recently, I've also been thinking if the live dealer tables actually give a better vibe compared to standard digital software . How do you all feel about that, and did you found any good trends lately ? Let's get a start a going in this thread!

Thinking back with virtual betting, I have realized how the latest sites have completely transformed how we play slots . In my opinion, it seems that the payouts tend to be quite unpredictable, which is why smart budget control matters most in this hobby. One thing I regularly remind myself is to never chase bad runs, because it's almost always when the fun goes wrong . Lately, I've also wondered whether the stream dealer tables actually give a better experience compared to classic digital versions. What’s your take on this whole thing, do you prefer slots or tables? Let's get a discussion here below !

To be fair, it feels like the house edge can be super random, which makes me think careful bankroll control matters most in this hobby. By the way, I checked out this interesting resource [url=https://telegra.ph/L%C3%A9clat-singulier-du-casino-en-ligne-une-plong%C3...
https://telegra.ph/L%C3%A9clat-singulier-du-casino-en-ligne-une-plong%C3... where players talk about different winning systems, and it’s been really helpful to keep my spending low . A major point I always advise myself is to avoid trying to chase bad runs, because that’s usually how the fun gets messy . Over the last few weeks, I've also wondered if the real-time croupier tables genuinely provide a more authentic experience than regular digital versions. What do you guys opinions on this, and have you found any good patterns lately ? Let's get a discussion going below !

Thinking on my experience, with digital gaming, I've recently observed how new sites are shifting the way players experience tables. Personally, it feels that the payouts are often totally volatile, which makes me think proper bankroll management matters most nowadays . That said, I ran into this awesome resource [url=https://telegra.ph/Fragile-Opportunit%C3%A0-nel-Mondo-dei-migliori-casin...
https://telegra.ph/Fragile-Opportunit%C3%A0-nel-Mondo-dei-migliori-casin... where players discuss various betting strategies , and it has really helpful to keep my losses low . One thing I regularly tell others is to never track losses , because that tends to be how everything turns bad. Recently, I've also wondered if the real-time croupier options actually offer a fairer experience than regular RNG versions. What are your thoughts on this, do you stick to slots or cards ? Let’s start a here below !

Thinking about it, with online gambling, I have realized how modern casinos are shifting how users enjoy slots . Personally, it seems like the house edge can be totally volatile, which makes me think smart budget management matters most in this hobby. That said, I ran into this interesting source [url=https://telegra.ph/Solide-et-S%C3%A9curis%C3%A9-le-casino-en-ligne-fiabl...

One thing I always advise newbies is to avoid trying to track bad runs, because that tends to be how the fun goes wrong . Lately, I've also started questioning if the stream dealer options truly offer a more authentic chance than regular RNG versions. How do you all feel about that, do you stick to machines or cards ? Let's get a debate going in this thread!

Honestly, I have been watching this cool thread for a while, and I wanted to post a few points. For starters, from my experience plenty of bettors usually ignore how crucial it is to have solid budget control, which totally determines your gaming results. Also, slots lately get incredibly unpredictable, so one have to be mindful. That aside, it's worth to look at spin king casino, which provides some fantastic strategies on ways to increase your chances. It’s also obvious that recovering money lost is the fastest way to go broke, so please know when to walk away. Do you concur with my perspective, or do you prefer another mindset? Let's hear your thoughts below!
